My parents migrated from Mexico as children, and worked selflessly and tirelessly to make a home for us here in the U.S. Like many children of immigrants, I watched their daily struggles, sacrifices and resiliency, and learned at a young age that when things get tough, you fight back. My dad also taught me that instead of suppressing your emotions, you take action.

That's why I'm excited to be volunteering with Al Otro Lado, an organization made up of few dedicated staff and volunteers that are doing everything they can to protect the rights of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border and the greater Los Angeles area. The community they continue to serve includes deported persons separated from their families by inhumane immigration policies, refugee families fleeing for their lives, unaccompanied children, LGBTQIA refugees, and migrants with serious medical conditions. From know your rights advocacy, refugee accompaniment to the port of entry, direct legal representation of detained refugees, legal and case management services for deportees, and impact litigation designed to disrupt the system of injustice which violates the rights of the most vulnerable among us, your donation helps hundreds of individuals, children and families.
