Many of you have been following my journey as I join Al Otro Lado's efforts to secure human rights for migrants and their families.

The work that my organization does is invaluable to maintaining a just society. Some of our work includes:

Family Reunification: Did you know that some parents were deported without their children-- and still have not been reunified? This horrific and inhumane U.S. policy tore families apart; Al Otro Lado is trying to bring them back together.

A Bond and Parole Release Project: based out of Otay Mesa Detention Center where detainees are held until their case is heard before an immigration judge. For many, being held in detention is re-traumatizing, scary, and unfair as they have violated no laws.

Representation for mentally ill detainees: making sure that their rights are safeguarded as they navigate the asylum application and process.

Impact litigation that confronts our current administration when they try to implement unconstitutional policies.

Tonight, as I hold my son in the comfort of our home I will be conscious that many of our brothers and sisters do not have the same opportunity to be together, or warm, or safe. And for them I will continue to fight. I hope that you will join me.
