Three nights of culinary gatherings in Los Angeles to support immigrant and refugee communities
In 2017, Roads & Kingdoms and Anthony Bourdain launched the Banned Countries Dinner Series in response to the first Trump administration’s travel bans, using food as a way to honor cultures under attack. Now, amid an unprecedented wave of mass immigration crackdowns across the United States, they're returning to the table with a new series of benefit dinners supporting local frontline organizations defending immigrant and refugee communities.
Al Otro Lado’s mission is to uplift immigrant communities on both sides of the US-MX border by defending the rights of immigrants, refugees, and people who have been deported against systemic injustices. We fight for all families that have been torn apart by unjust immigration laws.
Each year we reach over 15,000 migrants speaking over 50 different languages. Your support will have an immediate and lasting impact on the lives of people in migration.
As a binational organization working on both sides of the US-MX border and with partners throughout Latin America, we are uniquely positioned to respond to the multiple attacks on immigrants’ rights. We reach some of the most vulnerable migrants- unaccompanied immigrant children, members of the LGBTQI+ community, and linguistically isolated asylum seekers- with life-saving legal aid. We provide food, water and clothing to save lives in the desert. And, we make sure people in migration know their rights, and know that they are not alone.
